In F1 at the moment Lewis Hamilton of all time Ayrton Senna, and all those people who will say schuey is, well he is just a cheating c*nt and not only in F1, he was before he got there!

    All time:
Juan Manuel Fangio. Not only did he survive for 7 full seasons in F1 in an era where careers tended to be ended early by accidents, but he won titles in five of those years, in four different makes of car! He came back from breaking his neck in an accident early in 1952 to win four of those titles. Upon his retirement he held all of the “most something” records in F1. His records (for drivers competing in over 5 GPs, so as to exclude all of the Indy 500 results from 1950-60) for % of wins compared to starts, % of poles compared to starts, % of fastest laps compared to starts, % of GPs started on the front row of the grid & average qualifying position still stand today, 50 years after his retirement. Many of his records have only been surpassed in recent years, and all the drivers to have overtaken one of his records have taken part in 3x or more GPs than Fangio did. His great drives were many, but his all-time best was an amazing comeback from a minute behind at the Nürburgring in 1957 to win…his fastest lap being quicker than his pole position time.
    Present:
Fernando Alonso. He’s been working miracles with poor cars for much of his F1 career, and he was able to capitalise on both seasons where he had a fully competitive car at Renault. Ok, so 2007 looks bad but he had to contend with the “Ron effect” (where one driver is so obviously the team favourite that you feel totally undermined) and he did it better than any other driver apart from Lauda has ever managed. He makes fewer mistakes than any other driver in modern F1, he’s as fast as anybody and he is capable of racing tactically, which is something of a lost art among today’s championship contenders. He’s the only current driver who makes it into my top 20 of all time (albeit in 20th place).

Now, I say Kimi Raikkonen maybe this year he was out of form, maybe he lost some of his Saturday speed and did many mistakes but his mistakes were far less than the champion and his contender. If you counted Kimi’s mistakes you find out that he only made 4 (One in Spa if you counted it, One in Singapore, one in Monaco and in Valencia) and two bad qualifying performances on the other hand Hamilton did around 8 mistakes and Massa 6 without counting Silverstone. and he is the 2007 world champion so Kimi is the best now. But whatever me or anybody else says until every racer races in the 10 cars on the grid we won’t know for sure who is the best.
Alonso was the worst in 2007 and his first half of 2008 wasn’t good too but his performances in 2005 & 06 were great

For all time you are asking for the impossible: Fangio, Piquet, Schumi, Senna, Prost. Are the contenders but There is no way to tell. The records say Schumacher so I pick him

Based on statistics alone, that would be Michael Schumacher.

by now, i think schumacher is the best

but i think Alonso will be the best of all time if he can win the 2009 champions

Ayrton Senna. He was the most talented driver of all time. Three time world champion. Incredible driver in the rain. His nephew might get a ride in 09.
